FNCTN is a formula.
FNCTN is built on a simple idea: how you feel through the day can be helped along. The right ingredients, at the right doses, at the right time of day.
Doses that matter
We formulate at amounts reflected in research, not token amounts added just to look good on the label.
Nothing hidden
No proprietary blends. Every active ingredient is listed with its exact amount per stick.
Clean by default
Zero sugar, zero calories, sweetened only by monk fruit and stevia. Lime & mint by day, vanilla by night. Nothing artificial.
DAY · Wake Protocol
An amino acid found in tea, linked to a calm, focused state of mind. Paired with caffeine, it smooths out the lift and takes away the jittery edge.
A restrained dose, roughly a small coffee. Enough for a clean lift without the spike-and-crash of a 200mg energy drink.
The primary electrolyte lost through sweat. Restoring it supports fluid balance, nerve signalling and lasting hydration.
Works with sodium to regulate cellular hydration and muscle function. The balance is the point.
NIGHT · Rest Protocol
A highly bioavailable, gentle-on-the-gut form of magnesium bound to glycine. Supports nervous-system relaxation and muscle recovery.
Added on its own, on top of the glycine that comes attached to the magnesium. It lowers core body temperature, which is the signal the body uses to start sleep.
The same calming amino acid, here without caffeine, to quieten mental chatter as you wind down.
Read it yourself.
Every active ingredient was chosen on the strength of published research. The papers are linked in full below, including the ones that report modest results.
Calm that does not sedate
An amino acid found in tea leaves. Pooled across placebo-controlled trials it shows gains in cognitive performance, with the relaxed alertness that makes it worth pairing with caffeine rather than taking alone. The reviewers call the picture promising rather than settled, and so do we.
The pairing does what caffeine alone will not
The combination is better evidenced than either compound by itself. A review pooling fifty randomised trials found theanine with caffeine gives small to moderate improvements in attention task performance against placebo, with the edge of caffeine taken off the top.
Swallowing water is not the same as keeping it
Electrolytes change how long fluid stays in you. When drinks are ranked by how much fluid is retained rather than consumed, those carrying sodium and potassium hold an advantage over plain water hours after the last sip.
The form is the whole difference
Magnesium bound to glycine absorbs well and sits gently in the gut, unlike the oxide form that dominates cheap supplements. A placebo-controlled trial in adults sleeping poorly, and a meta-analysis of trials in older adults with insomnia, both measured improvements in how fast people fell asleep and how rested they felt.
Sleep through temperature, not hormones
Glycine before bed has been tested for how well people say they slept and how tired they felt the next day, and a 2024 review brought the human studies together. How it works is the interesting part: glycine acts on the brain's body clock and lowers core body temperature, the same drop the body uses to start sleep. No hormone involved. The trials used 3g; we add 1.95g on top of the glycine already attached to the magnesium.
What we left out matters as much as what went in.
The category norm is sugar, a proprietary blend and a caffeine figure nobody wants to print. We took a different position on all three.
No sugar, and nothing standing in for it
The functional drinks aisle still runs on sugar. Pooled cohort and trial evidence ties sugar-sweetened beverages to weight gain, type 2 diabetes and cardiovascular risk, and the dose does not need to be large to count. So we left sugar out completely rather than just cutting it down.
Sweetened by monk fruit and stevia
Sweetness comes from two plants. Monk fruit gives mogrosides, natural compounds hundreds of times sweeter than sugar; the US FDA has recognised monk fruit as safe since 2011, and it has passed a full European safety assessment. Reb M comes from the stevia leaf and is the part that tastes most like sugar, without the bitter aftertaste stevia is known for. Neither adds calories.
A label you can actually audit
No proprietary blends, because a blend is where an underdosed ingredient goes to hide. Every active ingredient is printed with its exact milligram amount per stick, including the caffeine, which sits at a deliberate fraction of what a large energy drink delivers.
